A spacious building on four floors housing accommodations for up to eight guests, situated on the left bank of the Singel canal, at a walking distance from the most important landmarks of Amsterdam
This spacious canal house extending over four floors keeps still intact the authenticity of the old traditional Amsterdam buildings.
All rooms come with solid wooden flooring and wooden beamed ceilings, an architectural detail that gives the apartment a much more suggestive and generous feeling.
The rooms are accessible from the ground floor, where a staircase leads up to the kitchen and to the living area, both warmly brightened by three large windows offering a breathtaking view over the underlying Flower Market.
The kitchen is incredibly ample, fully equipped with a microwave, an oven, a handy dishwasher, a spacious fridge and all the indispensable utensils you need in order to prepare your own meal. A large wooden table with eight chairs is set to create a sort of third dining area, dividing the functional and classy kitchen from the living space, this latter intimate and comfortably furnished with several cosy sofas and couches.
The first bedroom is accessible from the living room furnished with a comfortable and enticing double bed. A little toilet is conveniently situated right in the hallway, where another flight of stairs leads up to the second floor, hosting an additional living room with a TV and some relaxing seating - the ideal place to enjoy a laid-back moment.
This floor hosts the second bedroom, also furnished with a wide double bed, a TV and a bedside table. The second floor’s bathroom is situated right next to the bedroom and it features a sink and a bath tub with a shower, while the toilet is set in another small room in the floor’s hallway.
The third floor hosts two bedrooms and a second bathroom. The main bedroom at the front features a comfortable double bed and the second bedroom at the back of the floor comes fitted with one single bed and provides access to the large balcony.
A typical Dutch steep with a narrow ladder leads up to the attic featuring an enormous original wooden pick-up wheel which used to hoist furniture up in the apartments from the boats and cars below. Here, two extra single beds are placed at the very back of the spacious attic.
The apartment is definitely suitable for groups of corporates and business and eventually for families, even though the attic is not appropriate for young children due to the complex structure of steep stairs that access it.
The apartment accommodation is situated in the suggestive and evocative area of Amsterdam extending along the Singel Canal, the main waterway that used to define the old centre of the city.
From the Red Light District down to Rembrandtplein, the canal covers in a walking distance all the most important monuments and landmarks of Amsterdam: Dam square with the Royal Palace, the Begijnhof courtyard with the English Reformed Church and, of course, the colorful and picturesque Flower Market are just few examples of what these charming surroundings still treasure nowadays.
On the western side of the area you will have access to one of the most cheerful and vivid spots of the city, the Leidseplein square, with its bars, restaurants and clubs always crowded with lively Dutch people and curious tourists searching for a good place to enjoy a local drink.
The district forming the Canal Belt is also easily reachable from the apartments: here lies the intricate complex of narrow alleys, streets and bridges home to many recreational spots, such as tea rooms, coffee shops, and fashionable shops exposing their original and unusual merchandise, primarily handcrafts and tailoring, but also bookshops, jewelers and souvenir stores.
Singel canal is extremely well connected to other areas of the city - both central and peripheral - by tram and bus.
We are four friends who stayed in the Grand Canal house for a week last May. We can absolutely recommend this rental! The central address (flower market) and the very charming and roomy house itself were perfect and we enjoyed \"coming home\" after a long day of museum visits and sightseeing! Supermarkets and other shops right around the corner - The house was very clean, large bedrooms and a lot of space for sitting down comfortably. The Short Stay Group people were very helpful - at the airport as well as at the town office. It does mention in the description that the house is difficult for elderly people because of the stairs. We are all elderly - but if you are in allright shape it is not a problem (apart from the fifth bedroom on top - a very nice room but the way up can hardly be called a staircase...; however, it is possible).
