Jordaan is now known as one of the coolest areas in Amsterdam. Originally a poor area, it's now known for its population of young professionals following a massive renovation. This area is perfect for peaceful strolls around the little canals and through the courtyards. There are plenty of great restaurants bars and cafes in the area and you'll find something to suit every taste and budget. If you want to visit the sights of Amsterdam in the centre of the city, it's just a short walk away, but you'll find plenty to amuse you right on your doorstep.
