The Red Light District is the most popular tourist attraction of Amsterdam. It is a safe place to walk because the pimps want to protect their business. It is an area with small cozy streets with many small bars and small take-away restaurants. These Chinese restaurants have delicious roasted duck called Peking duck. But the Ladies of the Night are the main attraction. They sit behind large windows and they will try to lure you inside with their seductive smiles and sweet words. When the curtains are closed and the red light is burning the lady has a client who fell for her charms.
The Dam Square is close by. This square in the heart of the historical city of Amsterdam offers you great entertainment in the form of historical buildings like the Royal Palace and the prestigious Krasnapolsky Hotel. The Royal Palace now belongs to the Dutch Royal family but was once the city hall of Amsterdam built in the 17th century. When the weather is nice many locals and tourists come here to taste the typical atmosphere of Amsterdam. You can watch the street performers, feed the pigeons or even walk to the memorial. Every year on the 4th of May the Dutch commemorate the people who lost their lives during the Second World War at this memorial.
Take a walk to the Central Station and rake a train to other towns in The Netherlands to see more of the country. Delft is an old city with beautiful monumental churches and it is about 30 minutes away by train.
Great service when we picked up our keys at the airport. Wonderful space in a classic canal house in great location (quiet side street but close to shopping, restaurants) and checked all the boxes - canal view, lots of room, comfortable sofas and beds. tram stop and central station about a 10 min walk.Nancy - Date: 13:42 21-11-2018 Source: AmsterdamApartments.com
